Katie Froeschle was born in Fort Collins, Colorado on October 1, 1979. Her family moved frequently in her early years, and in addition to Fort Collins, she lived in Golden, Boulder, Steamboat Springs, and Basalt, Colorado. She began high school in Lakewood, Colorado in 1994, where she had many friends. In 1995, her family moved to St. Petersburg, Florida where she enrolled as a sophomore at Lakewood High School . While in high school at Lakewood, she was at various times on the swim team, basketball team, and softball team, as well as being a wrestlerette with the boys wrestling team. She also participated in the Future Business Leaders Club and the ski club. She graduated from Lakewood H. S. in 1998.
In the fall of 1998 Katie went on to Florida State University on a Bright Futures Scholarship. While at FSU, Katie became a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She was a member of the Insurance Society of the FSU Business College Insurance/Risk Management Department and participated in intramural sports and many campus activities. She graduated in 2002 with a bachelors of science degree in finance and risk management/insurance.
After graduation, Katie was employed first by State Farm Insurance as an agent trainee, then by Travelers’ Insurance in an administrative position, and finally by Florida Farm Bureau Insurance Company as a claims adjuster.
Katie loved scuba diving, snow skiing, basketball, softball and cooking. She played powder puff football, enjoyed deep sea fishing, tolerated hiking in the mountains with her friends and family, and loved to spend time on the beach or by the pool. She loved attending football games both at FSU, where she saw FSU win the National Championship, and in Tampa, where she saw the Buccaneers win the Super Bowl. She also enjoyed going to baseball games and hockey games. Katie loved animals, particularly her pets, and had cats and loved dogs; she considered applying for veterinary school.
Katie was very close to her family. She babysat her younger brothers, Sam and Jesse, and was like a third parent to both of them. She was very close to her mother and talked with her daily and spent many days shopping with her or just spending time with her. She vacationed with her family whenever possible.
On November 12, 2004, she was murdered while adjusting a hurricane claim at a rental property in Tampa, Florida for her employer.
