The 2007 recipients of scholarships from the Katrina Anne “Katie” Froeschle Memorial Scholarship Fund at Florida State University with Jeff Froeschle, President of the Katie Froeschle Foundation (middle).

Dan graduated in December of 2007 with a double major in risk management/insurance and finance. He was an excellent student with an overall GPA of 3.5 and consistently appeared on the Dean’s List the College of Business Honor Roll. He helped to cover the cost of his college education by working part-time during his entire academic program. Between his studies and work he still found time for student related activities and was a member of the Insurance Society at FSU and Financial Management Association. He also was a four-year starter for the Florida State University ice hockey team. Dan is now working for the Rogers Gunter Vaughn Insurance Agency in Tallahassee and is “adamant about pursuing an MBA!”

From Dan:
I came into Florida State University like most students, knowing very little about which direction I wanted to go in my life, but that college was the best way to get there. When I enrolled, my worries were few and far between and I was ready to take in the college experience. My initial reaction was this is great, between 100% Bright Futures and an academic scholarship from FSU, I was getting paid to go to school. I quickly joined the FSU Ice Hockey team, which I played for every year, and hurried though my liberal studies courses.
As it became time to pick my major all signs pointed to business, where I found the courses very natural and the lure of the hustle and bustle of the financial world exceedingly appealing. As such, my first major was finance, where I did very well, that is until graduation was nearing. At this point, I was still unsure where I wanted to take my life and I sincerely enjoyed my experience at FSU. I than did what I thought would be best for my future and picked up another major to give me the time and experience to make a more informed decision. To complete this process I went to the Dean’s office and we talked about which majors would work with my current courses, as well as which ones would provide the most opportunities upon graduation. We soon decided that Risk Management Insurance was the most sensible choice. When I got into the major, the first thing that stuck out to me was the way the faculty sincerely cared about the well being and employment of their students, as they far surpassed my expectations. At this point, I was almost finished with school and new pressures were mounting in the form of employment and graduation. To compound my new obstacles, I learned that my academic scholarship from FSU only went four years, and no longer. Now, amidst the new uncertainty of my nearing future, I was scrambling to replace that income in which I had grown to rely on. That is when I applied for, and received, the Katie Froeschle Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship immediately relieved the burden of replacing the deficit I was about to incur. The scholarship allowed me to regain focus on academics, graduating and entertaining the employment circus the next semester was to bring. As my time as a student came to a close, I was fielding a multitude of employment offers before ultimately settling with a position as a commercial producer.
I am extremely grateful for the scholarship and look forward to one day reaching out and making a students life a little less complicated, as the Froeschle scholarship did for me.
Monica graduated in April of 2008 with a degree in risk management/insurance and a minor in psychology. She was an excellent student with an overall GPA of 3.5. She was a member of the Insurance Society at FSU where she served as the secretary for the ISFSU. She also was a member of Delta Epsilon Chi-Business Fraternity and the American Marketing Association where she was a Resident Advisor. During her time at FSU, Monica worked in several service positions for the university including the Freshman Interest Group and the FSU Foundation.

From Monica:
My name is Monica Czyszczon and I was the proud recipient of the 2007 Katrina Anne Froeschle Memorial Scholarship. I will be graduating from Florida State University in the Spring with a Risk Management and Insurance degree. I took the introductory Risk Management and Insurance class as a business elective. I was very intrigued by the subject and found myself discussing the subject matter outside of the classroom. I chose the major Risk Management and Insurance because I found the major challenging and applicable to everyday knowledge. The program is ranked fourth in the nation and the professors are more than willing to assist each student. I have been able to intern with some of the most influential professionals within the insurance industry. I have spent a summer interning with the Florida Association of Insurance Agents and an independent agency. I am currently working for Auto-Owners Insurance during my last semester in Tallahassee. I feel more than prepared for all my future endeavors.
I had the opportunity to meet Jim, Katie’s father, at the Florida State College of Business Scholarship dinner. I was touched by the stories of Katie’s life and how the foundation is a testimony of how she is still making a difference even though she is no longer with her family. Her legacy has greatly impacted my life. I received the scholarship the semester I returned to Florida State University after loosing my father to cancer. I can empathize with the Froeschle family and their tragic lose. The scholarship assisted me with easing any financial burden while grieving a loss. I am very grateful for the Froeschles’ generosity.
